『冶金踊躍』（やきんようやく）

自分のおかれた現状に満足できないことのたとえ。

「冶金」は金属を溶かしたり加工したりすること。「踊躍」は飛び跳ねること。坩堝（るつぼ）の中の溶けた金属が、飛び上がって外に飛び出しそうになる様子から。

来年にもiPhoneの折り畳み型が発売になる可能性があるという報道を新聞で見た。現在既にサムスンのgalaxyなどではフォールドという名称で折り畳み型のスマホが販売されている。

価格は高めだが、画面の大きさや同時に処理できるアプリの多さなどから根強く人気を高め、もう既に販売開始から数年が経過して年々性能も高まっている。

スマホに限らないが、IT分野や商品開発など様々な場面で性能や能力の向上のスピードがえげつない。

まさに『冶金踊躍』という言葉通りに、現状に満足せずに飛び跳ねるかごとくの開発競争が絶え間ない。

スマホがあるだけでも十分に便利なのに、毎年毎年リニューアルされる新型が新しい機能や元々の機能が向上するので、消費者側としても落ち着く暇がない。

自分の思い出で言えば、昔ようやくウォークマンを買うことができたときは大切に使って長持ちさせたものだが、現代は新しい機種が発売されると便利な新機能を使ってみたくて、どんどん購買意欲を駆り立てられてしまう。

これは良いことなのだろうか？悪いことなのだろうか？

それを決めるのは自分自身で、何に価値観を置くのかということを自分が知っておかないとただただ時代の流れに振り回されることになる。

『冶金踊躍』も良いことでもあり悪いことでもあるかもしれない。
